In many cases, the web pages or documents in the links below themselves contain information concerning – and links to – other organizations & resources, often at a regional or local level. You may wish to follow up some of these; clearly, we cannot indicate everything that is available!

Material specifically related to rural migrant workers

The Commission for Rural Communities has produced resources on specifically rural migrant workers, and overseen specific projects that have been written up as case studies:

The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has produced a number of helpful resources:

The Migrant Helpline has some useful resources & links

Migrant Workers Northwest is a rich source of help for both migrants and those who support or employ them; of particular relevance is the “Minimum Standards Charter: a voluntary code of practice on employing migrant workersAcrobat Logo

Boston Borough Council have produced a very helpful, brief resource called “Migrant Workers: Truth or Myth?” which answers some key questions or fears that people may have about migrant workers.

The East of England Development Agency and partners have developed the Migrant Gateway website. This contains much helpful material that is relevant for migrant workers all over the UK, not just in the Eastern Region.

Multicultural UK has produced Guides for International Workers in the UK in English & Polish. Initially this covered the “Three Counties” (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire) but is now countrywide, and emphasised young & seasonal workers looking to work in rural contexts. An updated version of the full UK Guide should be available in early 2008. These can be ordered from their website.

The Department for Communities & Local Government (Feb 2008) has produced “Communicating Important Information to New Local Residents”Acrobat Logo This contains guidelines on how to prepare welcome materials for migrant workers.

More substantial reports on migrant labour

An analysis of a recent paper from the Office for National Statistics “Migrants from Central & Eastern Europe: Local Geographies” (Oct 07)Acrobat Logo (437Kb).
