The newly appointed Bishop of Coventry’s first visit this week was to Stoneleigh Park, the home of the Royal Agricultural Society of England.
On leaving Coventry Cathedral, the Bishop, together with the Bishop of Warwick, were invited to Stoneleigh Park Farm Shop by Rev’d Barbara Clutton, Rural Life Officer for Coventry Diocese. The Bishops were presented with a basket of local produce bursting with goodies from farms located within a 20 mile radius of the Park.
Following the Farm Shop, the Bishops then proceeded to the Arthur Rank Centre, the national rural resources unit for churches serving the rural community and key partner of the Royal Agricultural Society of England.
Commenting on his new appointment, the Bishop of Coventry said: “After being brought up with the story of the cathedral and having worked with Bishop Colin and Bishop Simon on different projects, I have long admired the Diocese of Coventry.
“I am thrilled to have the chance to play a part in its vision of reconciliation and peace for the world as well as faith and hope for all.”
Rev’d
Dr Gordon Gatward, Director of the Arthur Rank Centre said: “We
are delighted that Stoneleigh Park was the first location to be
visited by the newly appointed Bishop of Coventry and look
forward to working with the Diocese of Coventry in order to
develop greater understanding between our urban and rural
communities.”
As the youngest Bishop in the Country, Rev’d Canon Doctor Christopher Cocksworth was announced as the new Bishop of Coventry at 11am on 3rd March 2008; succeeding the Right Reverend Colin James Bennetts.
